Jakarta Chinatown Walking Tour in Glodok Enlivens Jakarta Imlekan Event

The Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy (Parekraf) Agency, held 'Jakarta Imlekan' today, Saturday (2/5). In this event, they organized the Jakarta Chinatown Walking Tour which took place in Glodok area, Taman Sari, West Jakarta and was participated by 20 people.

This is not only for recreation, but also a means of education

Jakarta Parekraf Agency's Marketing and Attraction Head, Hari Wibowo mentioned, the Jakarta Chinatown Walking Tour is a continuation of Cikini Walking Tour which was held in 2021.

"It is carried out by complying with health protocols to prevent COVID-19 spread. One of them is by requiring participants to undergo an antigen test," he said, after opening the Jakarta Chinatown Walking Tour.

Jakarta Again Kicks Off 2022 Lunar New Year

It was held to introduce participants to the heritage in Jakarta's Chinatown.

"This is not only for recreation, but also a means of education to the community about buildings that witness the history of the nation's journey," he conveyed.

Participants started the tour from Candra Naya Building, continued to Jalan Glodok, Jalan Pancoran, which was still dominated by drug stores. Then, Jalan Petak Sembilan, Vihara Dharma Bakti, continued to Jalan Kemenangan III, Catholic Church of Santa Maria De Fatima, Vihara Tao Se Bio, and ended at Pancoran Tea House in Petak Enam culinary area.

"Participants are accompanied by a tour guide who can explain each locations visited," he stated.

According to him, the same event will be held again on February 6, 12, and 13, 2022.

"We hope there will be more participants who join this walking tour in the future," he expressed.

One of the participants, Andini Harsono (33) from South Jakarta said, she was very happy to take part in the event.

"I am very excited. Moreover, there is a tour guide who provides a lot of information about history of buildings in Glodok Chinatown area. I happen to be a social media activist, so I will share this activity later thus more people will know about the existence of Jakarta's Chinatown, which is full of historic buildings," she conveyed.
