Landfill Mining and RDF Plant Construction Targeted to be Completed in October

The Jakarta administration has officially started the construction of the Landfill Mining Waste Processing Facility and the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant at the Bantargebang Landfill, Bekasi, West Java.

Hope we can inaugurate it in September or October

Its construction was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony by Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan at the National Waste Care Day (HPSN) event at the Bantargebang Landfill, on Monday (2/21).

Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto said, on a 74,915-square-meter-wide, there would be two main waste management facilities, including 20 other supporting buildings which were divided into public zones, administration zones, and process zones.

Here is LH Agency's Effort to Extend Service Life of Bantargebang Landfill

The administrative zone and the public zone consisted of office and laboratory buildings, fire and rescue facilities, reservoirs, pump houses, workshops, vehicle washrooms, guardhouses, and places of worship.

While the process zone consisted of a truck washing facility, an RDF plant processing facility, a landfill mining treatment facility, an RDF product warehouse, a transformer house, and a WWTP.

He explained that the RDF Plant processing facility and landfill mining treatment were made with an open green building concept to facilitate air circulation.

"This waste processing facility will become a modern, clean, efficient, and environmentally friendly RDF," he explained.

He continued RDF is a renewable energy material that is the result of the waste processing process which is later used as an alternative fuel and also used in the power generation industry or the cement industry.

It can process waste, either new waste or waste that has been collected from Bantargebang Landfill up to 2,000 tons. The details are 1,000 tons of new waste and 1,000 tons of existing waste in the Bantargebang area.

He added this project is the administration's effort in solving the waste problem in the capital. It is expected to reduce and process the waste heaps that have been in the Bantargebang Landfill for years.

It is targeted to be complete in the third and fourth quarters of 2022. "Hope we can inaugurate it in September or October," he hoped.
