E. Jakarta Administration Replaces Banyan with Tamarind Tree

East Jakarta Park Sub Department plans to plant tamarind tree to replace the banyan tree in the area in upcoming 2015. It is because the banyan tree's root damaged the road structure easily.

The tree is able to reduce the temperature by 2-4 degrees

Not only that, the shady and the height of banyan tree also burdensome the officer to maintain the tree. Suzi Marzitawati, E.Jakarta Parks Sub Department Head, said so on Sunday (12/7).

"We have difficulty in trimming the banyan trees due to their height," Suzi added.

Children Park Project in N. Jakarta Delayed

According to her, tamarind trees have no too many roots but still creates a cool environment.

"The tree is able to reduce the temperature by 2-4 degrees," she continued.

At this moment, two locations in a park on Jalan Dr Sumarno and Jatinegara Park will be planted with tamarind trees.

"The planting will be done to all areas gradually," Suzi disclosed.
