City Builds Integrated Parks in 6 Regions

Jakarta Provincial Government continues to add green open spaces (RTH) which amount at this time is still below 10 percent. Whereas, the Spatial Planning Bylaw Draft (RTRW) is mandating that the amount of RTH in the capital city in 2030 must reach 30 percent of total city’s area.

Those parks will have some facilities, such as library, early childhood education program (PAUD), sports venue, as well as playground for children, elderly, and people with disability

One of the ways done by Jakarta Provincial Government to fulfill the mandate is building six integrated parks which spread in six regions. Those regions are Sungai Bambu Urban Village (North Jakarta), Gandaria Selatan Urban Village (South Jakarta), Cideng Urban Village (Central Jakarta), Cililitan Urban Village (East Jakarta), Kembangan Urban Village (West Jakarta), and Untung Jawa Island (Seribu Islands).

“In March next year there will be six pilot parks managed by PKK (Family Welfare Empowerment). Later, those parks will have some facilities, such as library, early childhood education program (PAUD), sports venue, as well as playground for children, elderly, and people with disability,” stated Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama, at Monas Park, Central Jakarta, Sunday (12/7).

Heavy Rain, Some Trees and Billboards Collapsed

According to him, the width of these six integrated parks is varied between 1,500-4,000 square meters. Their construction process is already running now.

Other effort done by Jakarta Provincial Government to expand RTH, Ahok added, is to propose budget to the City Council (DPRD) to buy houses or lands in dense settlements. This will be conducted next year.

“We will turn those houses or lands into integrated parks. Hopefully the City Council would approve the budget we proposed,” he uttered.
