One Month, 19 People Put on Trial for Littering

Jakarta Provincial Government is very serious about cracking down people who are caught littering. Strict sanctions are applied to them, starting from ID card (KTP) foreclosure until bring the person to minor crime offense court (Tipiring).

From November until December last week, 19 people have been put on trial. Along 2013-2014, we have netted 105 people who were caught littering

“From November until December last week, 19 people have been put on trial. Along 2013-2014, we have netted 105 people who were caught littering,” stated Head of South Jakarta Satpol PP, Sulistiarto, Monday (12/8).

Sulistiarto stressed that his party and South Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department keep holding raid against people who throw trash haphazardly.

Littering Carelessly, ID Card Revoked

“We also get assistance from civil servant investigators (PPNS),” he added.

According to Sulistiarto, PPNS are put in every sub-district. Thus, they can quickly make the dossier (BAP) for those who are caught littering.

“We have deployed at least two persons in each sub-district,” he told.

For people who are caught littering, they will be charged under Bylaw No. 3/2013 on Trash Management and Bylaw No. 8/2007 on Public Order.

“Indeed, the maximum fine is Rp 500 thousand. But, the decision depends on the judge who usually gives fine around Rp 100-200 thousand. The important thing is to give deterrent effect to those who like to litter,” uttered Sulistiarto.
