Panjang Island to Have New Channel Soon

A 360-meter-long water channel is being built around the tomb of Sultan Maulana Mahmud Zakaria, Panjang Island, Kelapa Island Urban Village, North Seribu Islands Sub-district. It aims at anticipating puddles when it rains heavily.

It has been ongoing since March 9 and is targeted to be complete by the end of this March

Seribu Islands Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency Head Hendri expressed that the channel would have 30 centimeters wide with 40 centimeters deep along the access road to the tomb.

"It is completed with a drainage control, locally known as bak control in the size of 80x80 centimeters wide with 60x60 centimeters deep," he expressed, Sunday (3/13).

The work involved around 20 workers conducting digging of channels, installation of channel walls, manufacturing control tanks, and castings.

"It has been ongoing since March 9 and is targeted to be complete by the end of this March," he stated.
