Senator Sylviana Murni: Jakarta Needs New Specificity Status

Historical and cultural are factors that the city of Jakarta must continue to have special status after the enactment of Law number 3/2022 on the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan.

State assets must be utilized as much as possible to support Jakarta as a global city

Senator in the Jakarta Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Sylviana Murni said some of those factors were that Jakarta was officially recognized as the city that initiated the proclamation of independence and the center of all revolutionary activities and propagator of the Pancasila ideology following Law number 10/1964.

"Jakarta is also recognized as the venue for various important events such as the birth of Boedi Oetomo, the Youth Pledge, the proclamation of independence and the establishment of Pancasila, and the 1945 Constitution. These historical values are very meaningful for the efforts of fostering and further development in Indonesia," she expressed, an elected senator from the Jakarta constituency, Monday (4/11).

According to her, the history of Jakarta related to the nation's struggle has been going on since the colonial period, the struggle for and after independence.

"Jakarta also plays a large role in supporting the administration of government and creating a positive image of the Indonesian nation amid international relations. This city has the status as a Diplomatic Capital City of ASEAN Countries," she explained.

She went on to say that several major cities abroad that have received special status include the Designated City of 12 cities in Japan, the special autonomy of the City of Hamburg, Germany, and the special authority of the Port of Rotterdam Authority in the Netherlands.

While Jakarta was the city of the future after the enactment of Law number 3/2022 as a sustainable and competitive city for the welfare of the people.

"Jakarta will be developed in the future into three categories as a livable city, fair, cultured, and acknowledging diversity; an innovative, creative and IT-based city as well as a productive city, a business center, and climate resilience," she continued.

She was optimistic that development in various sectors would continue in the city of Jakarta as the development of an area was not determined only by the status of the capital city.

"State assets must be utilized as much as possible to support Jakarta as a global city," she closed.
