Ryaas Rasyid: the Capital Relocation Has a Positive Impact for Jakarta

Referring to Law number 3/2022, Jakarta will no longer have the status of a capital city because the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) has been set in North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan.

Jakarta will still be a special province

Regional Government and Autonomy Expert Prof Dr. M Ryaas Rasyid disclosed the relocation of the capital city from Jakarta was only a status, but there was no relocation of the commercial center and Jakarta remained a metropolitan city.

"IKN is the center of government. Jakarta nothing has changed which means that from a government perspective, public services in Jakarta will continue as usual, including clean water supply services, population, health, and order," he expressed, Thursday (3/31).

MPR Reminds Jakarta's Readiness for the Future

He went on to say that Jakarta would not undergo significant changes, as it was impossible for IKN to become a new Jakarta. Jakarta will still be the center of trade, business center, corporate headquarters, and Jakarta will remain a business center for the next 10 to 20 years.

"Jakarta will be more relieved with the many thousands of employees who also move to IKN and the relocation of regional representative offices. Thus it will parse traffic jam also," he continued.

After Jakarta was no longer the capital city, he added, the form of government needed to be discussed more deeply, especially regarding the discussion of changes to the law regarding Jakarta at the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Commission II in the future.

Moreover, the transition period needs to be considered what will it look like? It is because sudden changes are very fundamental where throughout history since the Dutch era in Jakarta there have never been divisions, the rules are uniform, the service is uniform, the activity schedule is uniform and the Bylaw is one.

While the idea of city autonomy needs to be discussed further. What form of government and its effectiveness should be discussed? Then, continued or gradually formed the autonomy of this city as the Seribu Islands could not become autonomous as it did not meet the requirements. if it was continued, it would be a minus.

He agreed that Jakarta would remain a special province or province, as an autonomous city must still have a province for historical reasons.

"So, Jakarta will still be a special province, it's just a matter of internal arrangements depending on the agreement and the conditions of the people, that's all," he closed.
