East Jakarta Firefighters Deal with Gembrong Market Fire for 13 Hours

It takes 13 hours for firefighters from the East Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-agency to deal with the fire in Gembrong Market area, Jl. Basuki Rahmat RW 01 Cipinang Besar Utara, Jatinegara from extinguishing and cooling process.

We started dealing with fire on Sunday at 21:30 until the cooling ended on Monday at 10:22

According to Gatot Sulaeman, Section Head of East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-agency's Fire Control and Rescue, the main difficulty faced by the team was the lack of water resources thus they had to go back and forth to East Flood Canal (KBT) to collect water.

Moreover, the unfavorable conditions at the location forced firefighters to carry out a lot of maneuvers to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters Put Out Flames in Gembrong Market Area This Morning

"We started dealing with a fire on Sunday at 21:30 until the cooling ended on Monday at 10:22," he conveyed, Monday (4/25).

His side deployed 27 fire trucks and 135 firefighters to extinguish the fire. There were no casualties or victims injured in the incident. But, 450 families or about 1,000 people across 5 RTs had to lose their homes.

"Currently, some fire trucks are still on standby at the scene," he mentioned.
