Jakarta - Berlin Presents Jakarta Future City Hub to Develop Digital Entrepreneurship Ecosystem

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan conducted a site visit at the Jakarta Future City Hub at the Jakarta Box Tower (JB Tower), Central Jakarta, on Thursday (4/28).

This is a place where anyone can come to meet each other

Together with Germany's new Ambassador to Indonesia Ina Lepel, the Governor reviewed the location that would be a meeting point for collaboration between the government and business actors in the digital world. This Hub was the result of the collaboration of the Jakarta Smart City with the Berlin Government in the Smart Change project funded by the European Union.

Jakarta Future City Hub provides a one-stop shop for startups, founders, and innovators in the concept of co-working, networking, and space for activities and workshops.

In his speech, he said that it is a place for entrepreneurs, startups, and digital activities to work together.

"This is a place where anyone can come to meet each other, thus there is interaction, mutual learning, sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, and working together. A facility to make the digital ecosystem in Jakarta grow even faster," he explained, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release, Thursday (4/28).

He went on to say that the strength of the development of this digital field is collaboration. Thus, the Jakarta Future City Hub will position itself as a collaboration space to address urban challenges, as well as a hub for developing an entrepreneurial ecosystem in Jakarta, driving innovation, economic resilience, and job creation by empowering entrepreneurs and enabling cross-sectoral collaboration.

"Just see how everything is growing in the form of collaboration. InsyaAllah, this place can already be used in the forthcoming September," he continued.

As for the information, since 2019, the Jakarta Smart City and the Berlin government are collaborating through the European Union-funded Smart Change project. As one of the milestones of the Smart Change project, the Jakarta Future City Hub is being built to empower the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Jakarta.

"The German government strongly supports this initiative. The sister city partnership between Jakarta and Berlin is alive and well, and this hub will play a role in keeping this partnership that way in the future. Urban development and further development of the Startup ecosystem are two main interests that both cities share," expressed Germany's new Ambassador to Indonesia, ASEAN, and Timor-Leste Ina Lepel.

Jakarta Communication, Informatic, and Statistic Agency Head Atika Nur Rahmania hoped that the Jakarta-Berlin collaboration could contribute to ensuring that Jakartans have access to the economy and technology that can help improve their lives.

"It's specially developed for all kinds of innovations, so there will be themes later. Principally, this is a gathering place which we will then facilitate. Hope the public can also enjoy and take advantage of this facility as one of the pillars of productivity, especially in the digital aspect," she explained.

There are 2 main services at Jakarta Future City Hub:

- Entrepreneur Support Program aims to answer the non-physical needs of entrepreneurs, namely mentorship and networking

- Entrepreneur Space is a space for entrepreneurs to work, develop, and create their products, including Smart City Prototyping Center, Mini Studio, Knowledge Center, Berlin-Jakarta Cooperation Lab Space, and other supporting areas

Aside that, the Hub has communal spaces that support the sustainability of Jakarta's business ecosystem :

- Communal Area for sharing sessions, peer-to-peer learning, entertainment area

- Main Event Area to hold workshops, meetings, seminars, talk shows, FGDs, accelerator programs

- Working Space for startups to work

- Prototyping Corner or prototype room, product and idea consultation, product workshop

- Mini Studio or production room and consultation regarding digital content

- Mini-Expo/Showcase Wall which is a product and service exhibition corner that was born in this hub
