Tanah Abang becomes the first position of biggest waste contributor in Central Jakarta due to population density and the amount of shopping center. While the Johar Baru Sub-District becomes the area which generating the smallest waste from eight sub-districts.

Waste Control Section Head of Central Jakarta Health Department, Suhama explained, Central Jakarta produces up to 4,914 tons of garbage every day. From the amount, Tanah Abang contributes 734 tons minus 96 tons taken by the scavenger. While the Johar Baru Sub-District produces 437 tons minus 59 tons.

JakartaSuhama added, a total of 638 tons of waste was transported to the dump site Bantargebang every morning and afternoon by using 20 trucks belonging to the Central Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department and 12 trucks belonging to the Jakarta Health Department.
In addition to transporting waste, continued Suhama, his side also cleaning of garbage in citizens’ waterways. Because the citizens awareness to dispose waste at the location provided is still minimal.
"Channels under four meter is our job to clean it. Transporting waste sometimes took more time because we have to clean waste in the waterways," explained Suhama.
On the other hand, Suhama continued, his side was helped by the scavengers’ presence, because their existence could suppress the waste amount every day. Moreover, a lot of garbage still has economic value and can be recycled.
"Actually, we wish people can sort the waste that should be disposed of and which can be processed, so the transport activity could be lighter," told Suhama.
