“If Grogol River overflowed, Jalan S Parman would be inundated. Moreover, the road is relatively lower (than the river),” told Robin (34), the officer in Grogol Pump House, Thursday (12/18).
According to him, the trashes are originated from drains in citizens’ residential and office areas which disembogue to Grogol River. Especially during rainy season, trash volume will increase.
Post-Demolishment, Grogol River Dirtied by Trashes“We’ve tried to clean up the trashes, but they would pile up again soon. As a result, the pump house cannot suck up water optimally. To prevent flood, don’t throw trash into the river,” he asserted.
Responding on this matter, Head of Maintenance Section for West Jakarta Water Management Public Works Sub-Department, Amir Pangaribuan, stated that to minimize inundation on Jalan S Parman, his party has built pump house and elevated Grogol River embankment.
“Yes, the citizens’ low awareness is causing our pump house cannot function optimally because often clogged by trashes,” he said.
