“This is normal, (the amount of passengers) cannot be said surging. But, on the boarding pass, we do ask the passenger to come one hour early before the train departs,” stated Vice Public Relations Division of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational I Area, Mulyanto, Tuesday (12/23).

According to him, surge in homecomers is predicted to happen on December 23, 24, and 25, while the returning flows would occur on January 3, 4, and 5. The passengers usually already bought the tickets via online a few days before their departure dates.

Based on beritajakarta.com observations, the homecomers arrived early because they are worried would miss the train. Unfortunately, lack of facilities in the station has made the homecomers looked tired and toddlers crying because of the heat.

“I’ve arrived here since 11 AM, although my train departs at 5 PM. If I didn’t come early, I could be late,” said Agusalim (40), a resident of Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, who plans to back to his hometown at Malang, East Java.

“I’ve been queuing for three hours here. I’m planning to celebrate New Year at Yogyakarta. But since it is so hot in here, my kid gets fussy asking to go back home,” expressed Khusnul (54), another homecomer.
