Kadis Bina Marga : Kawasan Kota Tua Bakal Bernuansa Tahun 1635

Kota Tua Area will Have a 1635 Feel

The Jakarta Bina Marga Office is arranging sidewalks for visitors in the Kota Tua (Old City) area in conjunction with revitalization work at the site.

In principle, we build sidewalks as comfortable as possible with the atmosphere of the Kota Tua like in 1635

It is focused on Jalan Jakan Kemukus, Ketumbar, Jalan Lada Dalam, Jalan Lada Raya, and Jalan Kali Besar.

Jakarta Bina Marga Agency Head Hari Nugroho said, as of June 24, 2022, the progress of the work has shown around 85 percent.

The sidewalks would have street furniture, tree, plant, and fountain.

As for the road that used hotmix would be replaced with andesite stone and stamp concrete.

“Previously, the sidewalk was only 1-2 meters wide. After the arrangement, the area will have 7 to 8 meters in width. Even, we also plan to build a plaza with a width of tens of meters. It is targeted to be finished by the end of July 2022," he explained, after he participated in the Gowes Hajatan (cycling together) event toward Kota Tua, Friday (6/24).

He went on to say that one of the areas designed was located on Jalan Lada, formerly known as Parit Macan or Tijgergracht. Visitors would feel the Kota Tua area like in 1635.

Even, sidewalks would also be facilitated by various seats for visitors, including the implementation of the Low Emission Zone (LEZ). Interestingly, the site would also be developed into a tourist center that supports the community's economy.

He hoped that the collaboration between the Jakarta administration and the central government could make the site an international tourist destination.

"It will be interesting. In principle, we build sidewalks as comfortable as possible with the atmosphere of the Kota Tua like in 1635," he said.
