PU Department will Change the Water Drainage System

Jakarta Public Works Department still has much homework due to the inundation existence after rain in the capital. The puddle points were expected came out from the drainage that no longer able to hold the water.

The drainage channels on the road and residential areas are no longer able to hold water.

" The drainage channels on the road and residential areas are no longer able to hold water. That is the cause of puddle," said Agus Priyono, Jakarta Public Works Department Head, Friday (1/2).

Priyono added, based on the evaluation of inundation and flooding point on the field, his side will change the drainage system from horizontally flowed to the sea, to become vertically to the ground.

One New Pump House Built in North Jakarta

In order to realize this plan, his side will provide infiltration wells at some priority points. This project will be worked by Dept. of Highways (Binamarga) and Dept. of Public Works for Water Management.

"Rp 50 billion is prepared for each department," he added.

Continued Priyono, his side has coordinated with Ministry of Public Works to normalize the Ciliwung River and speed up the Manggarai and Karet Tengsin water gate.

"River normalization is also run to handle the flood around settlement," he continued.

Regarding the BMKG prediction about the peak of rain that will occur on third week of January 2015, he admitted ready to face it.

"We have prepared diesel water pump, rubber boat, river stone, and some of heavy equipments," he disclosed.
