Kampung Pulo Flooded, Residents Evacuated

Several areas in Jakarta were flooded due to heavy rainfall from Friday (12/26) to Saturday (12/27) morning. The water flooded Kampung Pulo by 2 meters height.

The water from Ciliwung River started to inundate at 4 AM and the water level reached its peak by 2 meters by 7 AM

A total of 140 residents were evacuated to East Jakarta Sub-dept. of Health office by 117 people and at Hermina Hospital by 23 people. In addition, the residents also parked their vehicles along Jalan Jatinegara Barat.

Syarifudin (48), a resident of RT 03/03 Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, admitted the local RT/RW and urban village officers have told about the flood that would hit the area.

"The water from Ciliwung River started to inundate at 4 AM and the water level reached its peak by 2 meters by 7 AM. It's usual condition for us," he admitted, Saturday (12/27).

However, many of residents were reluctant to be evacuated. They preferred stay at home to keeping their property.

Head of Jatinegara Sub-district, Sofyan Taher, stated the flood inundated 8 RWs and 55 RTs in Kampung Pulo. The number of affected family is 2,899 families or 7,809 people.

"If the flood is getting worse, we'll apply the large-scale evacuation for sure," he stated.
