Legislators Appreciate Sidewalk Revitalization in Kota Tua Area

The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) welcomes the revitalization of the pedestrian lane in the Kota Tua area, West Jakarta which is targeted for completion by the end of August 2022.

Of course, I agree, this is part of a strategy to increase tourist visits

According to Ismail, Chairman of Jakarta DPRD Commission B, pedestrian lane revitalization was a good idea to preserve the Kota Tua area as a historical icon of Jakarta. It was also a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) pilot project.

"Of course, I agree, this is part of a strategy to increase tourist visits," he said, Sunday (8/7).

Senator Sylvi Hopes LEZ can Be a Pilot for All Areas of Jakarta

According to him, the Jakarta administration had also designed the Kota Tua area as it was in 1635, with the hope of attracting visitors. It would have a positive impact on the MSME business and could improve Jakarta's economy.

"In the future, this area can be further optimized through events that attract tourists. So what is expected from this project can be realized. Hope this program is sustainable and developed for other historical areas," he explained.

The same support also came out from another Commission D Member Nova Harivan Paloh. He said that before the revitalization was carried out, the Kota Tua area looked crowded and less organized. But, the LEZ project will revive the beautiful Kota Tua in the future.

"Hopefully, this pedestrian can be useful for pedestrians and free from street vendors and illegal parking," she hoped.

There was also Commission D Member Dedi Supriadi who uttered that this revitalization was also to limit the number of vehicles entering the Kota Tua area thus tourists passing through the area were more comfortable enjoying the open space.

"This is quite progressive and good. Our hope is the historical heritage (Kota Tua) can be well preserved and become a reference for the young generation to cultivate a sense of love for the homeland and the city," he closed.
