Kaki Lima Night Market Moved to Each Municipalitites

The Kaki Lima Night Market which is usually held on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan or in front of City Hall is eliminated starting this year. The similar activity are no longer concentrated in the City Hall, but moved to the five municipalities.

Starting this year, Kaki Lima Night Market at City Hall is no longer exist

Head of Jakarta Cooperative Micro Small Medium Enterprises and Trade (KUMKMP) Department, Joko Kundaryo said, the activities which initiated by the President Joko Widodo while serving as Jakarta Governor is eliminated because there will be Lenggang Jakarta in Monas. Therefore, his side was no longer proposed budget for the activities.

"Starting this year, Kaki Lima Night Market at City Hall is no longer exist," said Kundaryo, Saturday (1/17).

Kaki Lima Night Market Postponed Again

As for the replacement, similar activities will be held in each region. While Kaki Lima Night Market event in front of the City Hall is just as the pilot project to be developed in the region.

"It should be deployed in five areas, we introduced it. But it's better to hold in each areas so citizens do not need go to City Hall," he added.

In addition, Joko continued, the street vendors’ management in IRTI Monas is almost completed. The location is named as Lenggang Jakarta. The elimination of Kaki Lima Night Market in front of City Hall is also to avoid competition among street vendors due to its location that adjacent to Lenggang Jakarta.

Later, each region is required to hold Kaki Lima Night Market. KUMKMP Sub Departments in each region have also proposed budget for that event. It is targeted the Kaki Lima Night Market can be held twice in one month. The location depends on the sub-department decision.
