According to the Governor, this historic moment was very important, as beside the reopening of the Kota Tua area, it was also accompanied by an ongoing MRT construction process, especially in an area that has been inhabited for more than 4 centuries.

"Jakarta as a modern city that will become the center of economic activity not only for Indonesia but also for the Southeast Asia region. We must prepare mass transportation that can reach all areas in Jakarta (including Kota Tua). Alhamdulillah, developments so far is done by integrating mass public transportation, 92 percent of the Jakarta area has been reached by public transportation," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release, Sunday (9/11).

He also explained that many residents prefer to use public transportation thus the construction of modern public transportation facilities must continue.

One of the highlights was the construction of the MRT, which is one of the main backbones for population mobility activities in Jakarta.

"Hopefully, it can ensure that Lebak Bulus to Kota Tua is connected (by the MRT). According to projections, it is estimated that by 2028, it will all be completed in Kota Tua. This place will have bicycle facilities, for emission-free vehicles, for pedestrians, among the various historical buildings here," he concluded.

PT MRT Jakarta President Director, Mohamad Aprindy revealed that the construction of Phase 2A, especially CP202 had some challenges, ranging from technical to socio-cultural.

“This project package has unique characteristics with limited development land and paths divided by canals. Hence, the stations and tunnels in this contract package will be built in four stacks or the term stacked stations and stacked tunnels. Aside that, the construction site located in the historic area of Jakarta which is surrounded by cultural heritage buildings makes us have to really pay attention to this aspect, including making intensive cooperation and coordination with relevant agencies, either from the government or universities," he continued.

He added the CP202 package would take 89 months. He also stated that PT MRT Jakarta keepa making efforts to introduce the development of Phase 2A work to the public, either through digital communication channels or directly.

"We have also opened two visitor centers, namely in Monas Park area and inside Kota/Beos Station, which contain information about the development of Phase 2A such as infographics, mockups of Monas, and Kota stations, archaeological findings, to photo areas with underground tunnels in the background," he closed.
