Dozens Building in Pejagalan Dismantled

Dozens of illegal building were demolished on Jalan Kampung Gusti, Penjagalan, Penjaringan, North Jakarta on Saturday (1/31). The demolition was aimed to prevent Kali Tubagus Angke to overflow.

A total of 420 joint personnel from Satpol PP, TNI/Polri, and Cleanliness sub-dept using one back hoe were deployed to demolish 39 illegal buildings, 8 street vendor kiosks, and 1 hotel which stand on RT 01 and RT 02/015 Pejagalan Urban Village.

Head of Penjaringan Sub-district, Yani Wahyu Purwoko said, the demolition process was a part of road refunction and Tubagus Angke river normalization programs.

"We give all the same treat. Including the hotel, we need to demolish the hotel because some of the building's part covers the road," he said (1/31).

Purwoko added, after the demolition process is done, the project will be continued to normalize the river and widening road. Later, the demolition process will be expanded to around 300 other buildings in RT 02, 04, 05,06, 08, 09, and RT 11/15 of Pejagalan Urban Village.

Meanwhile, Heriyanto, Executive officer of Jakarta River and Reservoir normalization admitted to immediately deploy the machine to dredge the river. Besides that, the road also will be widened from 4 meter to 8 meter.

"After the demolition is done, we will widen this 2.5 kilometer road," he added.

After the road project is complete, the road will be used as an alternative road from Jalan Tubagus Angke to Jalan Teluk Gong, while the 4 meters land remnant will be used for interactive park.
