A platoon or around 30 volunteers from the Indonesian Student Regiment Command (Konas Menwa) Disaster Preparedness and Menwa Jayakarta Humanitarian Task Force, Sunday (11/27) yesterday, deployed to assist in handling the Earthquake disaster in Cianjur, West Java.

We're here to help earthquake victims

Disaster Management Operations Alert Detachment (Densiops) Deputy Commander, Achmad Eri said that Menwa volunteers were on duty to explore areas after the earthquake which caused landslides.

"We're here to help earthquake victims by distributing assistance to victims' needs, a victim search team and a trauma healing team," he said through a press release.

He explained that the Konas Menwa Indonesia and Menwa Jayakarta would also continue to distribute basic food aid packages for victims.

"It is done in the framework of a humanitarian mission as a form of concern for our brothers and sisters who have been stricken by disaster," he explained.

Regarding the evacuation of landslide victims due to the earthquake, the joint volunteer team had difficulties in the field.

"But, we continue to struggle to find victims who are missing or buried in landslides," he asserted.

Until Sunday (11/27) afternoon, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) recorded a total of 321 people died as a result of the earthquake in Cianjur.

Suharyanto BNPB Head mentioned that the total number of victims was calculated after the discovery of three bodies today by a joint task force consisting of the army, police, Basarnas, BPBD, and volunteers.

"Related to the search and assistance of victims, three bodies were found today. This means that to this day, 321 people have died," he expressed, as quoted by the BNPB Youtube, Sunday (11/27) afternoon.

Thus far, 11 people are still missing. Meanwhile, the number of refugees to date has reached 73,874 people. In detail, 33,713 male refugees, 40,161 women, 92 people with disabilities, 1,207 pregnant women, and 4,240 elderly people.

Then there are 108 victims of serious injuries who are receiving treatment at the hospital.

In overall, there are 325 refugee points spread across all areas of Cianjur. Of the total evacuation points, 183 of them were refugee points with a total of over 25 people.

There are also 142 independent evacuation points, meaning that people have set up refugee camps around their respective homes with the number of refugees under 25 people.
