Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Legislator Pantas Nainggolan strongly supports optimizing the use of the Ciliwung River as a barometer of river management in Indonesia.

This river has the potential to be a place of positive activity, including tourist destinations

According to him, the Ciliwung River normalization must be carried out thoroughly to be used optimally as an integrated part to deal with floods.

"I support it to minimize flooding from Ciliwung River," he expressed, Thursday (12/8).

This Jakarta DPRD's Bapemperda Chairperson explained that after normalization, residents must also actively participate in maintaining cleanliness, do not litter.

"This river has the potential to be a place of positive activity, including tourist destinations," he explained.

According to him, the Ciliwung Rowing Festival held by the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry in collaboration with the Jakarta Government and Indonesian Rowing Sports Association (PODSI) was very good.

"Besides controlling flooding, Ciliwung can be used as a sports facility. That means that if we can maintain and care for the rivers in Jakarta, the role of the river is very important," he explained.

Through various activities that could become an annual agenda, it would attract tourists to visit Jakarta. Moreover, it could run optimally if the existing activities raised Jakarta's local wisdom.

"Let's protect and care for the Ciliwung River and 12 other rivers in Jakarta together," he exclaimed.

With river cleanliness, the Ciliwung River has the potential to become a raw water source for clean water services for Jakarta residents.

"We all know that Perumda PAM Jaya has targeted 100 percent clean water service coverage in 2030. It requires a lot of raw water sources, Ciliwung River can be a solution," he stated.
