Traditional House on Sebira Island Gets Appreciation by Locals

Residents living on Sebira Island welcomed the construction of a traditional house by the Jakarta Culture Agency (Disbud) in front of the Sebira Island Main Pier, RT 01/03 Harapan Island Urban Village, North Seribu Islands Sub-district.

This traditional house can also become an icon on Sebira Island

Besides being an icon and cultural preservation, residents hope that the stilt house building can become a tourist attraction.

Sebira Island Public Figure, Muhammad Ali Kurniawan said all residents on Sebira Island appreciated the construction of the stilt house. For residents who are majority from the Bugis ethnic group, the building reflects their customs and identity.

Sebira Island Embankment Construction to Be Completed Soon

"The traditional house building is our identity as residents. With this traditional house, we hope to maintain local wisdom," he expressed, Friday (12/9).

By doing so, he hoped that it could attract more tourists to visit Sebira Island.

"Moreover, this traditional house can also become an icon on Sebira Island," he asserted.

Jakarta Culture and Tourism Agency (Disbud) Head, Norviadi Setio Husodo said that the stilt house on Sebira Island was just completed at the end of last November. It was constructed in September 2022 by spending money by Rp 2.1 billion.

"This is an effort to preserve the customs or traditions of the people who are developing in Jakarta, especially on Sebira Island," he said.
