58 Houses on Sebira Island Already Have IPA SWRO

Until May 2022, as many as 58 out of 148 residents' houses on Sebira Island, Harapan Island Urban Village, North Seribu Islands have been connected with a Sea Water Reserve Osmosis Water Treatment Plant (IPA SWRO) installed by the Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency.

We are grateful and don't need to use groundwater anymore

RW 03 Sebira Island Chairman Muhammad Ali Kurniawan said its installation started in August 2021.

According to him, the primary water source for Sebira Island residents came from groundwater and rain-fed water.

Then in 2018, the Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) irrigation system was made from brackish water, yet it did not meet drinking water standards.

"We are grateful and don't need to use groundwater anymore. If excessive use of groundwater can result in seawater intrusion and land subsidence," he explained, Monday (6/6).

He hoped that 90 more residents' houses could immediately be connected to the IPA SWRO system to enjoy clean water from pipes for washing, bathing, or drinking.

"Thus, there will be no more residents using groundwater," he added.

Seribu Islands SDA Sub-agency Head Hendri explained that the construction of the IPA SWRO on Sabira Island has 1.5 liters per second capacity. According to him, IPA with SWRO technology is a water treatment plant that can process seawater into clean drinking water.

"This system utilizes a special membrane that can filter the salt content in seawater," he stated.
