Many Extravagance Project in Seribu Islands, Djarot Says

Jakarta Vice Governor, Djarot Saiful Hidajat made an impromptu visit (blusukan) since Friday morning (2/6) to three islands in Seribu Island Regency. The three islands are Untung Jawa, Pramuka, and Karya Island.

Many problems found during the visit, such as the project of food court (Pujasera) in Untung Jawa Island that assessed as an extravagance project using dozen billion rupiah.

The food court project was started in 2008 and resumed in 2010 with a total of Rp 6 billion budget. However, the building is never used since completed.

As a result, the building begins to damage on the roof, wall or flood. Moreover, the shrubs also grow fast arround the building and make it seen more untreated.

"This is a kind of good education. We can show how bad the planning at the past time. Later, we will not give any rupiahs for the unclear project like this, because it is an amazing extravagance," said Djarot in Karya Island, Friday.

He assessed, the project was a mess due to lack of community involvement.

"The improvement usually not involve the citizen. It is not good because the development should be coordinated with the citizens to make it right on target. I believe, no matter how much the Jakarta budget, if the planning and the implementation is not good, the result will far from optimal," he said.

According to Djarot, the breakwater in Karya Island is also an extravagance. He judged the breakwater is only an embankment, and it was useless because the tidal wave at the area is relatively small.

"The breakwaters should be built vertical to the sea and not shaped horizontal like that. If shaped like that, I think it is an embankment," he complained.

Still in same location, Djarot also found 33 units of firefighter bicycle that already comes on Friday morning. The amount was judged too much. Moreover, there only some islands that have a high density population such as, Panggang Island, Harapan Island, Pramuka Island, and Tidung Island.

"One Island, one bicycle because we have water here. So the area is not really need the fire fighter bicycle. Moreover, all of this is more needed in the city as in Tambora that have high density population. You should give it back later," he uttered.
