West Jakarta Prepares Solutions for This Year's Rainy Season

Hope it can operate this year

West Jakarta Mayor, Yani Wahyu Purwoko has said that the West Jakarta administration is ready to face the rainy season by improving flood-prone areas in 2023. It is carried out, as 8 out of 13 rivers in Jakarta cross the West Jakarta area.

Together with Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency, his party has carried out handling in flood-prone areas, such as Pesakih Cengkareng and Semanan urban villages, as well as Green Garden area, Kebon Jeruk Sub-district.

Acting Governor Heru Expects Optimization of Public Services in Jakarta

According to him, the inundation in Pesakih and Semanan areas was triggered by high rainfall and overflowing waters from the Tangerang buffer area.

To overcome it, a 3.1-hectare reservoir is being built on Jalan Haji Aseni, Kalideres, which aims to accommodate the water that passes through the Semanan River, thus it does not directly enter the residents' settlements.

"This reservoir is under dredging process already" he expressed, Wednesday (1/4).

His party is also building a levee along the Semanan River towards Mokevard Rover in a bid to prevent overflowing waters of the Mokevard River to hit the surrounding area.

"Usually, the water from Mokervard River enters the Semanan River and then overflows to the right and left of Pesakih and Semanan areas. But now it has started to be overcome. This is a very real solution for them (Pesakih and Semanan)," he explained.

To handle inundation in Green Garden area, Kebon Jeruk Sub-district, the folder plus pump and sluice gate are still being made. The area is often inundated, as its location coincides with Angke Tributary and Mookervart River. Thus, when water from upstream comes through Angke Tributary and then Mokevard River is high plus tidal floods from Cengkareng Drain, thus this area will be inundated.

"With this folder, it can block tidal floods," he added.

He added all these jobs have now reached 70 percent. Hopefully, all the efforts that are being conducted can be completed in 2023.

"Hope it can operate this year," he closed.
