A Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Incident

Tarmidi, (55), a citizen of Kampung Sumur, RT 05/09 Jatinegara Urban Village, Cakung, was found dead on Jalan I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, Wednesday (2/11). He died after being hit by a Metromini bus T47 (Senen-Pondok Kopi). The driver and conductor escaped the crime scene.

According to the information, around 5.30 AM, Tarmidi who wore a orange long sleeve shirt was walking on the roadside. Suddenly, from Pondok Kopi-Jatinegara, the bus came with a high speed and ran over him.

"The driver and conductor escaped and let the victim lying. It triggers local people angry and destroyed the bus because irresponsible driver," told Sofyan (40), a witness.

The victim was left lying on the roadside about two hours before being evacuated by police officers. Due to this condition, traffic congestion cannot be avoided up to three km, particularly from Pondok Kopi-Jatinegara.

Head of East Jakarta Traffic Accident Unit, AKP Robin disclosed the police are still hunting the impactor. His side will also summon the Metromini operator to figure out the driver's identity to ease the arrest.

"The impactor escaped and is still hunted. We will process them in accordance with the laws if the driver is caught," he told.
