City Invites Everyone to Actively Participate in Reducing Stunting Rates

Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono, directly checked the condition of stunting and its handling in Semper Barat Urban Village, Cilincing, North Jakarta, Tuesday (1/31).

There were also Jakarta Health Agency (Dinkes) Head, Widyastuti and North Jakarta Mayor, Ali Maulana. After checking the location, the Acting Governor conveyed the latest data on babies who were deemed to be prone to stunting.

"In Cilincing, the cadres in the sub-district who helped were active and 777 babies were temporarily found with stunting-prone status. Around 134 babies or around 17 percent are free of stunting already for that I thank all those involved," he explained, at Triputra Persada Hijau RPTRA, Semper Barat, North Jakarta, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

City Conducts Stunting Risk Data Profiling for Handling Malnutrition

According to him, the number of stunting cases cannot be separated from the role of the cadres who are intensively carrying out the Semper Barat program to Prevent Toddler Stunting. The stunting condition itself is characterized by a height below the standard set by the World Health Organization (WHO) for children under five years old.

"Earlier, I discussed with Dinkes Head and Health Center Head, Dr. Hesti, and the children were happy. But, they are less tall, which is less than 2 cm, 3 cm, and less than 1 cm from the WHO standard," he furthered.

To minimize the stunting rate, one of the efforts given is to meet nutritional intake for toddlers, thus the Jakarta Government continues to work on implementing programs to reduce stunting, which is also related to handling extremely poor conditions in Jakarta.

"I will tour the five regions including seeing extreme poverty. In Jakarta, many local governments have provided health insurance, education guarantees, there are elderly people, there are guarantees for children's schooling, and supplementary food provisions in which each family gets eggs, chicken, and meat. Hope this will be useful. Once again the Jakarta Government is consistent in dealing with stunting, but extreme poverty still exists. Keep on doing it," he furthered.

He invited parents to play an active role and prepare themselves so they could take good care of their children, even from the time the child is in the womb.

"I leave a message for them, they must have education in caring for children, related to food nutrition, their health, and the mother's health must be maintained. Especially if the mother is still pregnant, we intervene by providing nutrition, providing additional food for the mother, thus the child is born, hope it doesn't lead to stunting," he asserted.
