Drainages in Jakarta will Be Evaluated

Jakarta Water Management Department will evaluate the drainages that spread in the capital. This is because its existence is no longer able to accommodate rainfall. If the rainfall reaches 170 millimeters per day, the drainage can only accommodate about 50-60 millimeters of water per day.

If the rainfall is more than 60 millimeters, the drainage will collapse and cause puddles

According to Agus Priyono, Head of Jakarta Water Management Department, through evaluation, the magnitude drainage would be adjusted to the frequency of rainfall. He mentions, the drainage can only accommodate 50-60 millimeters of water per day.

"If the rainfall is more than 60 millimeters, the drainage will collapse and cause puddles," he stated, Saturday (2/14).

Drains in 44 Urban Villages Cleaned

He continued the evaluation is by researching rainfall intensity above 80 millimeters per day. If it happens constantly, the existing drainage will be repaired totally. If not, it only needs the widening in some locations.

In addition, those should also be made deeper than the utility and pump system.

"Thus water can flow smoothly. We have to place the pump strategically to suck up water effectively," he uttered.

As known, the capital is hit by flooding earlier this week. The rainfall intensity reached 170 millimeters per day and inundated 107 streets and more than 300 RWs with 14,000 flood victims.
