Karya Islands TPU Crowded by Pilgrims

Hundreds of pilgrims began to throng the Karya Island Public Cemetery (TPU), Panggang Island, North Seribu Islands, Seribu Islands ahead of Ramadan.

Karya Island TPU Officer, Amsar said the TPU, which has 2,000 square meters wide is starting to get busy with residents who want to make pilgrimages while cleaning their family graves.

"Pilgrims have started arriving at Karya Island TPU since March 16. Today, the pilgrims have also arrived since morning," he expressed, Sunday (3/19).

Jakartans Flock to Public Cemeteries Before Start of Ramadhan

He explained that most residents came from around Pramuka and Panggang islands. When compared to the pandemic situation, the number of pilgrims was more crowded and busy.

"We have also cleaned and decorated the graves to make them look more beautiful and neat. Of course, we want to provide the best service and comfort for pilgrims," he explained.

Komariah (42), a resident of Panggang Island admitted she deliberately came to Karya Island Public Cemetery by a boat taxi to visit her family's grave ahead of Ramadan.

"It is my routine activity with my family to come to the grave. I never miss this to pray for my family," she admitted.
