Heru Joins Tree Planting Action with Children with Disabilities

The city administration continues to collaborate with various parties to increase green areas throughout the region in order to adapt to climate change. One of them is by cooperating with the Don Bosco Salesian House.

Their work is pretty good

Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono appreciated the tree planting participants, the majority of whom were children with disabilities. In his opinion, the spirit of persons with disabilities was exemplary.

"Their work is pretty good and they do gardening, as well as part of the therapy too. Awaken their spirits and make Jakarta green. At the same time, they learn to plant and farm," he expressed, when attending the Jakarta Menanam Movement (Friday planting) for Food Security at the Don Bosco Salesian House in Sunter, North Jakarta, Friday (6/16).

He was seen accompanied by North Jakarta Mayor, Ali Maulana and Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture, and Food Security Agency (KPKP) Head, Suharini Eliawati who participated in planting Citrus Limon trees. It was accompanied by the planting of chili trees by children with disabilities.

"So, children also learn the zero waste composting process in this environment," he expressed.

Jakarta KPKP Agency Head, Suharini Eliawati explained the tree planting was conducted on the 500-square-meter wide land owned by Don Bosco's Salesian House. There were about 81 children participated in the activity.

She went on to say that one of the roles of the Jakarta Government was to increase their self-confidence by planting trees.

"The concept of this garden itself is that the results will be sold. We plant various fruits and vegetables, support from the Jakarta Government in the form of hydroponic racks and other infrastructure," she continued.

She added the 200 trees that were handed over were orange, eggplant, chili, and so forth.

"These children need therapy by holding the grains, besides therapy, parents are given activities by making handicrafts," she closed.
