Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono, opened a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Congestion Management in Jakarta at the Ballroom of Sumba Borobudur Jakarta Hotel, Central Jakarta, Thursday (7/6).

Let's give feedback, provide suggestions for later processing

The Acting Governor said efforts to deal with traffic jams were demands from the community that had to be discussed together. Through this FGD, it is hoped that various inputs, suggestions, ideas, and innovations to overcome congestion.

"When I had a discussion with Regional Police (Polda) Chief, Mr. Traffic Directorate (Dirlantas), that morning it was like a flood, from Bekasi, Tangerang, and Depok at the same time headed for Jakarta. What is the solution, among others, it is proposed to divide the hours of work, some come in at 8 AM, some come in at 10 AM. Hence, on this occasion, let's give input," he expressed, in a Jakarta Provincial Government press release.

According to him, input from associations or owners of management buildings and ministries could be taken into consideration in the future. The results of this FGD would also be discussed with Jakarta Transportation Council.

"Jakarta Government keeps trying to deal with traffic jams, most recently Transjakarta is adding a route to the airport across the Jakarta border. The aim is the Government wants to solve this problem step by step," he explained.

"This discussion is the most important part of resolving traffic jams. Let's give feedback, provide suggestions for later processing, whether it becomes a decision through the Gubernatorial Regulation. The presence of DPRD Chairman, Prasetyo Edi Marsudi here indicates that the Jakarta Government and DPRD work together to resolve this problem and the complaints, the most important thing is that we can overcome them gradually," he explained.

Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) Head, Syafrin Liputo expressed FGD was opened, as he saw Jakarta's traffic jams as a major problem in Jakarta. Thereby, concrete efforts are needed to overcome the problem of congestion in Jakarta

"Transport Demand Management (TDM) policy as a policy strategy in cultivating the use of public transportation has been implemented. The TDM concept consists of integrated public transport services and convenience for public transport users. Meanwhile, the push strategy implemented includes low emission zones, parking disincentives for private vehicles, and the implementation of odd-even areas," he stated.

"However, the implementation of this strategy can't forever reduce congestion in the capital, so there must be new proposals and policies that have been implemented need to be evaluated to improve traffic performance in Jakarta," he continued.

Jakarta DPRD Chairman, Prasetyo Edi Marsudi said the Jakara Government could follow Japan's example in vehicle ownership. One of them, the owner of the house has one car and one garage. Not only that, he stated, when the protocol roads are jammed, people are expected to use cluster roads or residential areas.

"Currently, the cluster roads made by developers are often closed, they can't be passed by the community. In the end, what happened was that the protocol road remained jammed. So, together we find a solution," he stated.
