"I appreciate the achievement of 14 gold, eight silver, and six bronze medals from Jakarta disabled athletes at the 2023 ASEAN Para Games," he expressed, Thursday (7/13).
For this achievement, he stated, the Jakarta Provincial Government should give a token of thanks or a bonus as is usually given to outstanding athletes.
"We (DPRD) always supports the budget requirements needed to give appreciation money to athletes," he explained.
Regarding the budget requirements for training athletes with special needs, his party would also be very supportive.
"I'm committed to supporting if there is an increase in budget requirements for athletes with disabilities," he explained.
He added appreciation should also be given by the government for facilitating or giving priority so disabled athletes can get good jobs.
"I think both the Jakarta Government and BUMD are very likely to accept them working. This is what we have to think about in terms of their lives in the future, thus they are more secure," he continued.
With appreciation and good support from the government and all stakeholders, disabled athletes could improve the welfare of their families.
"There are good examples, for instance Fajar is an athlete who won gold at the 2023 ASEAN Para Games who also memorizes the Koran. Because of the achievements previously achieved and the appreciation given, he took a noble action by buying a house and sending his mother for Umrah," he continued.
Hopefully, they could continue to be optimistic and motivated to work and excel in various fields, including sports.
"Despite it has limitations, there are advantages provided. Not a few disabled people are even gifted with extraordinary abilities," he added.
As for the information, at 2023 the ASEAN Para Games, Indonesia became the overall champion with 402 medals, consisting of 158 gold, 148 silver, and 95 bronze.
