Children Enthusiasticly Participate in Jakarta Library Visiting Day

The Jakarta Library and Archives Agency (Dispusip) collaborated with Bale Buku to facilitate children visiting the Jakarta Library at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Menteng, Central Jakarta.

The children who took part in the activity entitled ‘Semarak Hari Kunjung Perpustakaan Jakarta’ (Jakarta Library Visiting Day) looked very enthusiastic.

Jakarta Dispusip Head, Firmansyah said today's activity was to foster people's interest in reading and literacy, especially from an early age.

"I really appreciate my friends from Bale Buku who have contributed to increasing interest in reading and literacy starting from one patrol post in the Cakung area and now they have reached dozens of places," he expressed, Saturday (9/23).

He explained the role of the wider community, either individuals or communities, was needed to realize Jakarta as a city of literature.

"We have to keep moving and moving. Through this spirit, we believe that the generation in Jakarta will become smarter and more competitive. Moreover, Jakarta will become a global city," he stressed.

In cultivating reading, the role of parents is also very important. Parents must realize that children are national assets who must be well prepared so they can make the best contribution.

"Their role must be optimal, thus we're ready to welcome the demographic bonus towards the golden generation, the superior generation. Parents must be sensitive because reading provides good literacy for children in the future who will have broad insight and knowledge," he explained.

The Jakarta Library is a friendly library for everyone, from children, people with disabilities to the elderly. Facilities and infrastructure for children are well prepared.

"Not only for reading books, there is also a play room here," he explained.

Bale Buku Chairperson, Fajar Alvarisi uttered there were 200 participants ranging in age from children, teenagers to the elderly.

"We want reading as a source of literacy to become a culture for all Jakarta residents," he said.

The activities were filled with Cheerful Fairy Tales with Kak Izul (Zulharman), Science Academy by Yudi Febrianto, Poetry Musicalization, and a visit to the Marta Christina Tiahahu Literacy Park.

"It is no less important to travel to event locations using Transjakarta buses. This is also our educational tool for children to get used to using public transportation," he continued.

He added Bale Buku had been established since 2020 and currently has 12 community reading houses.

"The number of volunteers is around 90. In accordance with our tagline "Banyak Buku Banyak Saudara" (Many Books, Many Friends), so we'll keep promoting the reading and literacy movement as well as interaction," he added.

Meanwhile, one of the participating children, Farhan (8) was happy to visit the Jakarta Library.

"Happy, can read books, learn and play too. I want to come here again," he admitted.
