Sudin SDA Jakpus Buat Floating Forest di Waduk Melati

SDA Sub-agency Makes Floating Pot in Melati Reservoir

The Central Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency creates a floating forest using a floating pot system at Melati Reservoir, Tanah Abang. It is aimed to support greening while reducing air pollution in the reservoir area.

Every three days, we water the floating pots manually

Melati Reservoir Chief Supervisor, Dede Yahya said reforestation of the reservoir using a floating pot system has been implemented since six days ago using paralon pipes and fuel oil drums.

"At the moment, we're making two boxes and the plan is to have five boxes. Each box has eight drums with an area of two square meters," he expressed, Wednesday (10/4).

He explained these drums were then treated with cultivated soil and then planted with red shoot trees and water bamboo. Both trees are very strong even when exposed to direct sunlight.

“We tied the drums with rope to the strip plate so they stay in place. The rope also connects to the parallon pipe which has been made in a square shape," he explained.

After they had finished tying them up, the new floating pots were taken to the middle of the reservoir. The process of making one floating pot box involved five personnel and took three days.

“Every three days, we water the floating pots manually. Personnel went to the middle of the reservoir using rubber boats," he explained.

He hoped that the presence of a floating forest at Melati Reservoir would make Central Jakarta even greener and could reduce air pollution

"Hopefully this effort can also become an attraction for the Melati Reservoir," he stated.
