Air Quality in Jakarta This Thursday is in the Medium Category

The Jakarta Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU) figure is reportedly in the medium category on Thursday (9/21).

This policy is implemented to address the problem of air pollution in Jakarta

Based on the monitoring results of the four air quality monitoring stations (SPKU) owned by Jakarta Environment Agency (LH) and SPKU for the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, it shows that air quality is in the medium category, namely Kelapa Gading SPKU, Bundaran HI SPKU, Kebon Jeruk SPKU, and Jagakarsa SPKU. The ISPU scores on these four SPKUs were 65-84 (Medium).

"People can still do activities outside, but sensitive groups are urged to reduce long and heavy physical activity," expressed Jakarta LH Agency's Public Relations Head, Yogi Ikhwan.

He explained the public can get information about the level of pollution in their surroundings in real-time through the Low Emission Jakarta website, namely https://rendahemisi.jakarta.go.id, the LH Agency website https://lingkunganhidup.jakarta.go.id and Jakispu via JAKI.

The air quality measurement parameters on the website consist of particulate matter pollutants (PM2.5, PM10), Sulfur Dioxide (SO2), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Carbon Dioxide (CO), and ozone (O3).

He added the Jakarta Government is also taking action against industries that do not carry out maintenance and management of chimneys for stationary emissions.

Based on data from the Jakarta Air Pollution Control Task Force as of September 15, 2023, six coal stockpile companies have been disciplined, both by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the Jakarta Environmental Agency to date.

Some three companies have also conducted legal sampling for chimney emission measurements and are currently being sealed because they do not comply with applicable regulations.

Apart from that, the Jakarta Government also applies a scientific approach in the form of Weather Modification Techniques (TMC), namely, by spraying water from the tops of tall buildings with water mist generators. While 11 private buildings have installed water mist.

Another effort is the watering of protocol roads carried out by the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency, which is still ongoing. It was recorded that 215 locations had been watered, involving 270 cars and around 800 personnel.

He added the Jakarta Government has implemented a 50 percent WFH policy for Jakarta employees for the past two months.

"This policy is implemented to address the problem of air pollution in Jakarta," he stated.
