City Focuses on Emission Tests in Jakarta Buffer Areas

The Jakarta Air Pollution Control Task Force again explained the progress of efforts to improve air quality.

Jakarta PPU Task Force Speaker, Ani Ruspitawati, said that action to reduce air pollution had been taken by many parties. Currently, the Jakarta Provincial Government is focusing on expanding access for the public to hold emission tests.
The Jakarta Environmental Agency, in collaboration with the Environment and Forestry Ministry, has conducted training for emission test technicians in Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi from August 22 to October 11, 2023. The training was attended by 449 participants from 234 workshops, eight Provincial Environmental agencies and Regency/City and Environmental agencies of West Java and Banten.

The same procedure is also spotted at 13 parking spots, namely Lebak Bulus Park-and-Ride, Kalideres Park-and-Ride, Kampung Rambutan Park-and-Ride, Blok M Square, Mayestik Market Building, Menteng Park Building, Baru Market Parking Building, Taman Ismail Marzuki, IRTI Monas, West Jakarta Samsat, East Jakarta Samsat, North/Central Samsat, and Pulo Gebang Terminal Park-and-Ride.

She explained installations of watermist devices are being intensified. The building owners were said to have installed a device that will spray water droplets into the air.
"As of October 20, the number of watermist units installed is 166 units located in 134 buildings, both government and private buildings. Then 32 water mist units in 24 buildings are in process and will soon be operational to strengthen efforts to improve air quality," he expressed, in the Jakarta Government's press release.
He also detailed installations in various areas such as Central Jakarta: 31 buildings with a total of 31 units installed, North Jakarta: six buildings with a total of seven units installed, West Jakarta: 41 buildings with a total of 71 units installed, South Jakarta: 50 buildings with a total of 50 units installed, East Jakarta: six buildings with a total of 7 units installed.
Watering activities on protocol roads are also intensified. The watering of protocol roads carried out by the Fire and Rescue Agency was spread to 414 locations throughout the Jakarta area (until October 19, 2023).
"The number of vehicles used is 433 cars and 1,705 fire personnel are deployed. The watering of these roads is conducted in parallel with the installation of water mist which is carried out more widely," he explained.
The Jakarta Government also held emission tests. As of October 20, 1,152,942 four-wheeled vehicles and 123,090 two-wheeled vehicles had undergone emissions tests.
"The emission test locations are available in 340 workshops for four-wheeled vehicles with a total of 946 technicians and 114 workshops for two-wheeled vehicles with a total of 195 technicians spread across various areas of Jakarta," he added.
Aside that, the government is also preparing plans to build green open spaces (RTH) in the form of new parks in 23 locations this year.
"Meanwhile, the progress of tree and plant planting that has been done from October 2022 to September 2023 has seen 236,552 trees and 5,856,210 plants planted throughout the Jakarta area. Planting was carried out by the City Parks and Forest Agency, the City Administration, and the Food Security, Maritime and Agricultural Agency," he closed.
