Jakarta Wins Highest Score for Reporting Climate Action Implementation

Jakarta received Score A (the highest score) for reporting on the implementation of City Climate Action 2023 via the CDP-ICLEI platform.

Jakarta is recognized as a city that has bold leadership in environmental action and transparency

Cities that get this score are deemed to have built climate momentum, taking four times more climate mitigation, and adaptation actions than cities that are not listed as recipients of Score A.

Jakarta Environment Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto said 939 cities received a climate action rating from CDP in 2023. Jakarta received recognition from CDP as one of 119 cities worldwide or 13 percent of cities that received a Score A in climate action reporting.

"Jakarta is recognized as a city that has bold leadership in environmental action and transparency, even though the pressures of the challenging global economic situation," he expressed, Thursday (11/16).

He explained that the criteria for assessing Climate Action reporting with score A include making public disclosures through the CDP-ICLEI Track, having a city-wide emissions inventory, and having published a climate action plan.

Aside that, governments should also complete risk and vulnerability assessments and have adaptation goals to show how to address climate hazards.

He assessed many cities with a Score A are also taking a variety of other leadership actions, including political commitments from local leaders to address climate change.

"Cities with Score A demonstrate leadership in confronting climate change through coordinated and effective action, as requested by governments at the national level at COP28," he said.

As for the information, CDP is a non-profit organization that runs a global reporting system, thus investors, companies, cities, countries, and local governments can manage their environmental impact.

CDP is committed to supporting Indonesia's transition process towards a sustainable future by implementing climate change management based on data insights obtained from reporting.
