Jakarta is committed to becoming a climate-resilient city by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and increasing community resilience in the face of climate disasters.
Jakarta is open to collaborate with various actors
They are currently developing initiative steps and quick wins for climate change action, including updating t
he climate change action plan. Quick wins climate change actions are divided into two categories, namely mitigation and adaptation to climate change. Some of the mitigation actions taken include sorting waste at the source, eco-friendly shopping bag program, emission testing, low emotion zone (LEZ), car free day event, biopore holes and infiltration wells.
LH Agency Launches Website on Climate Change Action and Air Pollution Control in JakartaJakarta Environment (LH) Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto said, Jakarta made a breakthrough in the context of accelerating the handling of climate change issues in Jakarta by issuing Jakarta Gubernatorial Regulation number 90/2021 on climate-resilient regional low carbon development plan (RPRKD).
"RPRKD is a form of Jakarta's commitment to boost climate change mitigation and adaptation actions within the remaining deadline towards 2030 as a stepping stone towards net zero emission by 2050," he expressed, Tuesday (12/14).
Aside that, it was also a commitment to make an active contribution to the achievement of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
It was made to review cross-sectoral activities of regional apparatus that have the potential to accelerate mitigation, adaptation and handling of climate change disasters.
"Climate change mitigation action aims to reduce GHG emissions and increase GHG absorption," he explained.
According to him, it also aimed at gathering collaboration from all stakeholders towards low carbon development, which is an integrated and cross-sectoral priority of Jakarta's RPJMN and RPJMD
He added, the potential for climate disasters is real, so there needs to be acceleration in various climate change mitigation and adaptation programs.
"Jakarta boosts the achievement of climate change action targets in collaboration with multi-stakeholder government, community, business and academia," he added.
He furthered that the active involvement of various stakeholders is very important and needed in realizing low carbon development in Jakarta.
"Jakarta is open to collaborate with various actors for joint strategies and programs related to low carbon development," he furthered.
As for the information, climate change mitigation actions are grouped into five sectors with 11 actions:
1. Energy Efficiency
2. Expanding Use of Renewable Energy
3. Eco-friendly Fuel Replacement
4. Switching Use of Public Transportation
5. Mainstreaming Pedestrians and Cyclists
6. Reduction of Waste at Source
7. Optimization of Wastewater Treatment
8. Development of Waste Management
9. Expansion of GHG Emission Absorption
10. Use of Eco-friendly Energy for Industry
11. Climate Change Diplomacy
