Heru Synergizes Cross-Agencies and Elements to Prepare for Rainy Season

Entering the rainy season, the Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared various anticipatory steps. To synergize these efforts, Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono, led a Ceremony and Rehearsal for Preparedness for Rainy Season at the Malaka Sari Water Sluice Gate, East Flood Canal, East Jakarta, Friday (11/24).

All related units must be ready to prepare for the rainy season

"Thank you to all agencies and sub-agencies who attended today. I want all teams in the volunteer sector or involved in the disaster response, where there will be rain or other things that we should be aware of based on information from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in the upcoming February 2024," he expressed, as quoted by the Jakarta Government's press release.

Therefore, he wanted to regularly check disaster preparedness equipment and infrastructure in urban villages and sub-districts. Thus, everything can function properly when they are used.

"All related units must be ready to prepare for the rainy season, showing that residents need you to deal with disasters, both floods and others. We have to be ready," he explained.

Aside that, he also asked for synergy between agencies related to disaster management, especially the Water Resources (SDA) Agency to ensure that all water pumps in strategic locations can function properly. He also urged mayors to check out all related sub-agencies and ensure that everything needed is ready, both tools and human resources (HR).

"You all have to be aware, take turns on pickets. Likewise, at night, you focus on places prone to natural disasters and function the communication tool (Handy Talkie) well, especially in North and West Jakarta," he uttered.

Then he asked for community participation so they could be proactive in helping in the field when needed.

"Jakarta is identically flood or inundation spots, there are still several areas where the impact of flooding will occur. However, we're trying to speed up reducing flooding and reducing the affected area," he uttered.

Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head, Isnawa Adji expressed that based on BMKG predictions, the potential peak of the rainy and tidal wave (rob) season in Jakarta would occur in February 2024. This moment also coincided with the implementation of general elections, so further preparedness was needed to ward off potential disasters, especially in flood-prone areas.

As for the information, today's ceremony was participated by 300 joint personnel from the East Jakarta Kodim 0505, East Jakarta Metro Resort Police, BPBD, Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat), Health Agency (Dinkes), Satpol PP, Kominfotik Agency, urban village and sub-district heads in East Jakarta, disaster volunteers, and others.

"We're here to prepare for disasters and the rainy season will also be implemented in four other city areas. They are Central Jakarta at Ciliwung Lama River, Pasar Baru; North Jakarta at Pluit Reservoir; West Jakarta at Citra 8 Lake; South Jakarta at Babakan Lake; and East Jakarta at Malakasari Sluice Gate," he finished.
