Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) Head, Satriadi Gunawan inaugurated an independent hydrant on Jalan Gang Langgar, RT 03/03, Kebagusan Urban Village, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, Thursday (1/18).
The solution is we build posts with independent hydrants
He explained the construction of independent hydrants is part of fire protection efforts in densely populated residential areas. Residents can operate independent hydrants for initial handling of fires, thus excessive loss of property and life can be minimized.
"In Jakarta, many neighborhoods have problems with vehicle entry and exit. The solution is we build posts with independent hydrants that can be operated by the community to handle or extinguish fires when a fire occurs in their environment," he explained.
Gulkarmat Agency to Add Five Independent HydrantsHe went on to say that independent hydrants are not only operated to extinguish fires during fires, but also to support other activities such as community service work, speeding up post-inundation and flood management.
"In the future, we will build again in other areas. Because it doesn't require too much land, the benefits are extraordinary, especially in densely populated areas," he continued.
He added the Gulkarmat Agency Task Force at the urban village level will train fire volunteers in operating and maintaining independent fire hydrants, as well as ensuring the equipment is always in prime condition.
"We train the community to use independent hydrants properly. By forming fire volunteers at the RW level, there can be synergy between the community and the government to build community empowerment. Hopefully, in areas that are potentially prone to fire, community resilience will be created against the dangers of fire," he stated.
