BPBD: 1,258 Disasters Happened Last Year

Jakarta Regional Disaster Handling (BPBD) noted there were 1,258 disasters along 2023.

Building and residential fire became the most cases with 864 incidents, then flood by 65 cases, fallen tree by 234 cases, and landslide by 22 cases.

Jakarta BPBD's Data and Disaster Information Implementer Unit Head, Michael Sitanggang, said the number of disaster in 2023 were higher compared to 2022 by 1,220 cases.

"Last year's disaster was dominated by fire on building and residential. The case number we collected have greater impact," he said, Thursday (1/25).

He explained, based on the impact, as many as 9,361 people took refugee because of fire and flood, 97 people got injury, and 97 passed away.

He added that the disasters also damaging 3,004 houses, 537 offices/stores, 16 public facilities and 511 others.

"Total lost was Rp 272 billion," he added.
