BPBD: Residents Must Be Aware of Potential Landslides

The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) calls on urban village heads, sub-district heads, and residents to anticipate the potential for ground movement when rainfall is above normal.
Landslides are very vulnerable due to the current high rainfall
As quoted by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG), several areas in Jakarta have the potential for ground movement to occur based on the results of the overlay between the land movement vulnerability zone map and the monthly rainfall forecast map obtained from BMKG.
Jakarta BPBD Head, Isnawa Adji Aji urged sub-district and urban village heads and residents to check the condition of their respective areas actively, especially those close to rivers or where there are cliffs or escarpments.
BPBD: Puddles in Jakarta Have Receded Completely"Landslides are very vulnerable due to the current high rainfall. BPBD TRC officers in each sub-district will also monitor together with the urban village and sub-district heads if certain conditions require handling by both the BPBD and related agencies," he expressed, Friday (1/12).
He also urged the public to plant trees in vulnerable locations with minimal vegetation to prevent the potential danger of landslides, including making independent gabions and sheet piles if the ground is sloping or has the potential to move or shift.
"It can be done through self-help or collective efforts from the community to minimize more serious impacts if heavy rain occurs. We're coordinating with the SDA agency about the technical implementation of the locations that we have mapped in the field. Because talking about disaster management must be comprehensive," he explained.
Based on PVMBG, several areas in Jakarta are in the medium zone with potential for landslides:
1. Central Jakarta: Menteng area
2. South Jakarta: sub-districts of Cilandak, Jagakarsa, Kebayoran Baru, Kebayoran Lama, Mampang Prapatan, Pancoran, Pasar Minggu, and Pesanggrahan
3. East Jakarta: areas of Cakung, Duren Sawit, Jatinegara, Kramatjati, Matraman, Pasar Rebo, and Pulogadung
Then, in the medium zone, ground movement can occur if rainfall is above normal, especially in areas bordering river valleys, escarpments, road cliffs, or if slopes experience disturbances. Meanwhile, in the high zone, old ground movements can become active again.
