According to him, one of the main issues driving the labor movement since the beginning of International May Day celebrations was that poor working conditions often led to injury, illness or even death.

"The risks and dangers faced by workers without adequate protection and safety standards include work accidents and work-related diseases. The essence of May Day commemoration is as a momentum for workers' struggle and contribution to society and the economy, as well as continuing to fight for fair and decent working conditions for all," he explained.

Based on work accident information recorded on the satudata.kemenaker.go.id website and BPJS membership in 2023, it is known that the number of work accident cases in Indonesia was recorded at 370,747 cases, especially in Jakarta there were 23,399 cases.

He assessed that with the development of industry and technology much progress has been made in the field of occupational safety and health, thanks in large part to the struggle that May Day represents.

He explained the introduction of K3 laws and regulations in many countries had helped in setting minimum standards for working conditions, including accident prevention measures, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safety training, and occupational health checks. However, despite much progress, the fight for occupational safety and health remains relevant.

"This is because there are still industrial and company activities where workers continue to face significant occupational safety and health risks, thus the government and companies are obliged to take further action to protect workers," he explained.

On that occasion, Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration and Energy Agency also gave awards to as many as 20 companies that had participated in efforts to implement K3 in the workplace, the best levy payers and the companies with the best loyalty in work environment testing activities as well as contributing through the payment of levies for Jakarta's Regional Income (PAD) 2023.

"Hopefully, cooperation between the Jakarta Government and companies will become closer. Congratulations to the companies that have collaborated in efforts to implement K3 in the workplace and congratulations to the workers who have become training participants," he stated.
