Pj Gubernur DKI Resmikan Groundbreaking Pembangunan RDF Rorotan

Heru Launches RDF Rorotan Groundbreaking

Acting Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono launched the groundbreaking of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Plant Jakarta in Rorotan, North Jakarta, Monday (5/13). This place will become one of the largest waste processing facilities into RDF in the world.

processing 2,500 tons of waste/day

RDF Plant Jakarta is built above Jakarta Provincial Government's land by 7.87 ha in Rorotan Urban Village, Cilincing Sub-district, North Jakarta.

Heru said the waste processing capacity at this facility is capable of processing 2,500 tons of waste/day, and will produce products in the form of RDF or alternative fuel as much as 875 tons/day.

Environmental Agency Prompts Stakeholders to Synergize in Waste Management

"It will be one of the largest facilities in the world," he said.

Heru added that Jakarta must prioritize waste management within the city so that the burden on the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) is reduced.

According to him, the budget to build this world-class facility comes from the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) of the Jakarta Provincial Government for 2024. According to the plan, the RDF Plant Jakarta facility will operate in 2025 and is expected to be operational to support waste management from upstream to downstream in the city of Jakarta.

"This is the smallest part of Jakarta Provincial Government's efforts to control the waste problem. One of them is RDF. Many other technologies can also be applied in Jakarta, but we must avoid tipping fees," he added.

He continued that this effort is an embodiment of Jakarta as a sustainable global city. Therefore, Jakarta must manage waste like developed countries, one of which is prioritizing the development of waste processing within the city.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Environment Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto, said after the construction of the Jakarta RDF Plant is completed, it is hoped that it can increase the efficiency of waste transportation within the city.

"Of 16 sub-districts which previously transporting waste to Bantargebang, will be processed here after the construction is completed," he said.

This RDF Plant Jakarta, Asep continued, becomes the second project of Jakarta Provincial Government in processing waste into alternative fuel or RDF.

"Previously, similar facility was already built at Bantargebang Dump Site and operated in 2023. RDF is an alternative fuel processed from waste processing with the calorific value of RDF equivalent to light coal," he stated.
