116th Harkitnas: May Jakarta Become a Global City Leader

The Jakarta Provincial Government held the 116th National Awakening Day (Harkitnas) ceremony with the theme 'Second Awakening Towards a Golden Indonesia' at Monas Square, Central Jakarta, Monday (5/20).

We must capture this moment to achieve our dreams as a nation

Jakarta for Culture and Tourism Deputy Governor, Marullah Matali, who acted as Inspector of Ceremonies, read a speech from the Ministry of Communication and Information, stating that today Indonesia is in the second phase of revival, continuing the spirit of the first revival that was established by the founding fathers of the nation.

"The second awakening is the most important moment for the Indonesian nation. We must look to the future with optimism, confidence and belief. Progress is visible before our eyes. We must capture this moment to achieve our dreams as a nation. At this point, all the potential of our natural resources, our demographic bonus, and the potential of our digital transformation will become the basic capital towards a Golden Indonesia 2045," he expressed, in the Jakarta Government Pronvicial's press release.

Acting Jakarta Governor Declares Jakarta's 497 Anniversary

He explained the National Awakening that falls on May 20,1908, had inspired Indonesia to become an independent country. Hopefully, Jakarta could become a leader for global cities not only in ASEAN, but also in Asia and the world in line with the goal of Golden Indonesia 2045.

Aside that, Indonesia's demographic bonus must be managed well. One thing that has the potential to become a support is the adoption of digital technology. The internet penetration rate in Indonesia has touched 79.5 percent of the total population. It was reinforced by the potential of ASEAN's digital economy which is estimated to skyrocket to USD 1 trillion by 2030.

"In business, social and economic aspects, digital transformation can create new jobs and support economic growth, as well as intensify business productivity and profitability. Meanwhile, in social and environmental aspects, it can improve access to various technologies for mitigation and adaptation climate change," he uttered.

Concluding his remarks, he said that the joint work of all components of the nation had definitely moved the wheels of transformation. Results after results can be enjoyed, from urban to rural areas, in all corners of the country. Hence, collaborative efforts must keep being strengthened to support the progress of the Indonesian nation.
