West Jakarta Announces Formation of TB Alert Village

In commemoration of World Tuberculosis (TBC) Day which is celebrated every March 24, the West Jakarta administration signed a joint commitment to form a Kampung Siaga Tuberculosis (Alert Village) which took place in the Pattern Room, West Jakarta Mayor's Office, Monday (5/27).

Administration and People's Welfare Assistant, RM Amien Haji, said Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that is still a challenge in Indonesia, including Jakarta.

"Indonesia is in second place after India with the highest number of TB cases in the world. Therefore, it is necessary to increase public awareness in order to minimize the case. To control it, it is important to involve all sectors of regional apparatus organizations (OPD)," he expressed.

West Jakarta Health Sub-agency Head, Erizon Safari stated that based on the 2023 global TB report, the estimated TB cases in Indonesia are 1,060,000 cases.

As for West Jakarta, the estimated number of suspected TB cases in 2024 is 68,174 cases. However, based on Tuberculosis Information System (SITB) data as of May 14 2024, only 18,214 cases were found. Meanwhile, there were 14,027 confirmed TB cases.

According to him, the Jakarta Health Agency (Dinkes) keeps trying to accelerate TB control in order to make Jakarta TB-free by 2030 by establishing TB alert villages in 267 RWs in Jakarta.

"Today, in West Jakarta, a joint commitment was signed to declare a TB alert village by the Health Sub-agency, Sub-district Head, Urban Village Head, and Community Health Center. In the future, one RW in each urban village will become a model as a TB alert village to educate the community," he stated.
