Channel Construction in South Jakarta Keeps Being Accelerated

The arrangement of the drainage system to overcome inundation and flooding in South Jakarta keeps being maintained.

We'll build eight new channels

South Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency Head, Santo said that, as many as 17 channels would soon be built in several flood-prone areas.

"Nine are still under construction and two of them have been completed. After this, we'll build eight new channels in the near future. In total, there are 17 channels," he expressed, Friday (6/28).

New Channel Built on Jalan Jembatan Dua Barat

The work has been ongoing since April 2024 ans is targeted for completion in the upcoming November 2024.

Then there were two channel constructions that had been completed, namely on Jalan Menteng Wadas and Jalan Menteng Atas RW 06, Setiabudi Sub-district.

"Meanwhile, what will be completed in the near future is the construction of the channel in Menteng Atas, RW 01, which has reached 94 percent," he explained.

He admitted that it would have an impact on traffic jams, such as the channel construction project using drilling or jacking methods on Jalan Prof Dr Satrio, Tebet, South Jakarta.

Nevertheless, before the work, his party had socialized it to residents and road users, either through environmental administrators or banners along the road.

To speed up it, personnel closed one lane of the road in coordination with the South Jakarta Transportation Sub-agency.

"Hopefully, it can be finished on time, becauae now we have entered the jacking or drilling stage to speed up the installation of the box culvert channel concrete," he said.1
