Breakwater Repair on East Side of Panggang Island Completed

The breakwater which was damaged after being hit by tidal waves in the waters on the east side of Panggang Island, Panggang Island Urban Village, North Seribu Islands Sub-district, completely repaired.

This is also our effort to maintain the breakwater and coastal area resilience

Seribu Islands Water Resources Sub-agency (SDA) Head, Hendri said the 120-meter-long collapsed breakwater repair consisted of 20 massive cubes.

"Several breakwaters were damaged and collapsed due to tidal waves at the beginning of July. Repair started on July 10 and was completed yesterday," he expressed, Wednesday (7/17).

Breakwater Repairs on East Side of Panggang Island Accelerated

The work involved ten personnel. It was conducted by reattaching collapsed massive cubes and then tying them together with alternating wire to make them stronger.

According to him, the breakwater was important to protect beaches and residential areas from tidal waves which can trigger abrasion.

"This is also our effort to maintain the breakwater and coastal area resilience. We remind residents to be careful with extreme weather lately," he explained.

The repair above received appreciation from RW 03 Panggang Island Chairman, Jarwanto.

"The high waves occurred because the east wind was strong a few days ago. Thanks to the personnel who are ready to guard and maintain this area, one of which is by repairing this breakwater," he stated.
