The 2,000-millimeter diameter pipe is a raw water channel to the Pejompongan pipe, which is used to process clean water at the Pejompongan Water Treatment Plant (IPA).
PAM Jaya CEO, Arief Nasrudin said the leak had disrupted clean water distribution to 84 urban villages, affecting around 200,000 customers or the equivalent of one million people.

He explained the leak sparked 3,167 complaints from the public. Thereby, Perumda PAM Jaya has sent clean water via tanker trucks with a total of 2.1 million liters of water distributed in 519 delivery routes to date.
They also gave compensation in the form of a 10 percent or maximum Rp 50,000 bill discount to affected customers.
"We're continuing to work on resolving this issue. As of tonight, the raw water capacity has increased to 71 percent and is expected to reach 93 percent by 5 AM today. Water distribution is expected to return to normal at 100 percent by Friday morning," he explained.
Of the 2,000 kilometers of pipeline affected, the most remote customers, such as those in Muara Baru and Mangga Besar areas, were expected to return to normal water supply within the next seven days. PAM Jaya urged people who need water immediately to contact the 24-hour contact center at 1500-223. Certainly, 3,200 PAM Jaya teams were on standby 24 hours to ensure the best service for the community.
He asked contractor companies working in Jakarta to be more careful in working on underground utilities, considering the complexity of the utility network in Jakarta.
PAM Jaya also appreciated the support from the Water Resources (SDA) Agency and Indonesian Red Cross who helped in distributing water through tanker trucks.
"Hopefully, this incident is a lesson for all parties to be more careful in handling underground utilities. We apologize to the people of Jakarta, especially those affected, and hope that similar incidents will not happen again," he closed.
